Catch a movie at Cine Tutu, the new São Paulo cinema by Isay Weinfeld

Architect Isay Weinfeld, who co-directed a feature film in 1988, has designed Cine Tutu, a 114-seat independent cinema and the first street cinema in São Paulo's Vila Madalena. Visitors pass through a café-bar and a lounge-style waiting area with olive-green banquettes, then reach a screening room with floral-print seating, an 8.9m screen, 4K projection and Dolby 7.1 sound. The venue, founded by Paulo Velasco, is one of the locations for the 50th São Paulo International Film Festival.

The climbable, portal-shaped sculpture stands on a cliff in Jardine Park and is made from basalt bluestone sourced in Timaru. The designers say it need not stay unchanged, since the region's seismic activity and the vast timespan mean it may weather or fragment over time.
